About Us

My passion for jewellery and gemstones goes back as far as I can remember. As a child I would cherish every piece given to me, even costume jewellery.  At times I would remove the stones from their settings and just place them in a jewellery box so I could admire the gem alone.  Looking into the gemstone and seeing what other people couldn’t see, the intensity and saturation of colour, the inclusions, the scintillation, they all spoke to me and it seemed as if the gems had a voice of their own. I fell in love and that was the start of a life-long romance. 

My burning desire to work closely with jewellery has continued throughout my career and in 1993, I decided to study Gemmology – the Science of Gemstones. No one really knew what gemmology was and many friends questioned, “How can you study gemstones?” The course was a two-year part time program and although at times difficult and very science based, I loved every minute of it (maybe not the many hours of study though). It taught me how to look at a gem in a totally different way with expert knowledge about its formation, internal structure and inherent weaknesses.  Sometimes the more imperfect a gemstone, the more beautiful it is.

After finishing my gemmology degree, I continued down my usual career path which wasn’t jewellery or gems but still the passion was always there.

In the 2000’s I started to frequent many jewellery auctions, trade shows and international fairs. The love of finding that rare and unique piece of jewellery is like nothing I can describe. Only true jewellery lovers know the feeling. It’s like modern day treasure hunting and the adrenalin rush you get when you hit the ‘treasure’.  It’s not about money, or the value, it’s about the appreciation of gemstones, the design of a piece, the craftsmanship and the many hands it took to turn this gift from nature into a wearable art form.  It’s about sharing that passion with others so you can open their eyes to beauty they may have never seen before.

In 2016 I took a massive leap of faith I decided to leave the only career I had ever known to follow my jewellery calling. I gave into it; the struggle became so strong that I knew in my heart it was time to follow my passion.  Sometimes the universe sends you messages, and my message was loud and clear - follow your dreams! Trust your instincts, use the knowledge you have gained, and go for it, and so The Jewellery Trading Company was born.

I am finally home in my beautiful gemstone and jewellery world, sharing my love of jewels with people around the world and knowing this is my true ‘happy place’.

I look back over the years and realise I have been setting myself up for this moment all along, how the subconscious mind works?  I have been gaining wonderful friendships with like-minded people, building relationships with others in the industry. From the artistic flair of jewellery designers, to the creative hands of jewellers, and to the expertise of jewellery valuers, these wonderful people are all integral to The Jewellery Trading Company.
